Created and curated by Maia Maiden aka Rah Fyah, this multifaceted show exhibits the skills and techniques of the finest choreographers in the Twin Cities and beyond. ROOTED is a high-energy performance where audience members can share space with Minnesota’s diverse Hip Hop and Street dance community featuring old-school favorites, up-and-coming talent, and the women of Hip Hop. ROOTED is the only show of its kind that embraces the history of Hip Hop culture and, for that reason, has sold out every year since its debut.

Next Generation celebrated the future of Hip Hop and street dance by creating space for emerging artists to learn alongside experienced practitioners. Through battles, mentorship, and cultural exchange, the 2025 edition highlighted the importance of passing knowledge from one generation to the next while honoring the foundations that continue to shape the culture.

ROOTED: Hip Hop Choreographers' Evening returned as a dedicated performance experience celebrating the artistry, innovation, and storytelling of Hip Hop culture. Featuring original works by local and visiting choreographers, the evening highlighted the depth and diversity of Hip Hop and its foundation while creating space for artists to share personal narratives through movement.

As part of The SOTA Movement's continued evolution, ROOTED brought audiences together to experience Hip Hop beyond the battle floor, showcasing works that honored the culture's foundations while exploring contemporary voices and creative expression.

The SOTA Movement: ROOTED × UPRIZING was the inaugural presentation of what would become The SOTA Movement. Bringing together ROOTED: Hip Hop Choreographers' Evening and UPRIZING under one collaborative event, it celebrated Hip Hop through live performance, battle culture, and community gathering. This first edition established the foundation for the festival's future evolution, inspiring the biennial format and distinct experiences that continue to grow today.
